Brief description of role:

Provide technical support to staff and students whilst ensuring academic staff have the resources and space to deliver practical lab sessions within the HPC. Other department responsibilities include: the day-to-day operation of the Human Performance Centre; maintaining and calibrating sport science equipment; supporting undergraduate and postgraduate practical activities and data collection; assisting with consultancy work and helping with research.  

How long at Institution:

Chris has been at the University of Lincoln since 2008.  

Journey to role:

Before working at the University of Lincoln, Chris has had a background in retail management, spanning 20 years! He completed a degree in Sports Science at Nottingham Trent University, at the Lincoln College Campus. He then started teaching at Lincoln College, before moving to the University of Lincoln as an hourly paid lecturer (2008). In 2010, Chris become a full time technician, working in the Human Performance Centre. 

Things to love about the role/ work:

Chris loves the team he gets to work with and the huge amount of variety that the job provides! 

Advice to other technicians:

Always follow a process of elimination when troubleshooting, and don’t be afraid to ask for help from anyone – even from colleagues that you think might not know the answer, because they can often surprise you! 

Interests outside work:

Chris plays badminton for a local club in Lincoln and has represented Lincolnshire at Senior/Masters level for many years. He also coaches badminton and his last player become a member of the Great Britain Squad and went to Rio 2016 Olympics as the only non-playing support player to help the team prepare and to experience an Olympic Games, prior to hopefully representing Great Britain at Tokyo 2020.
