Brief description of role:
Mick is responsible for the day to day running of the Maker Lab which is a workshop consisting of 5 separate rooms offering a variety of activities. He offers ceramics, glass fusing with great kiln support. Metal working, enamelling and jewellery using copper, gilding metal and aluminium. The Maker Lab also has a CO2 Laser, print sublimation facilities, digital embroidery machine and 6 desktop MACS for student use. He also has a separate photographic suite and cameras to allow students to photograph their work or make stop animation. He liaises with students and academics, and shares his knowledge to support students with project ideas. He also researches on the job, and resulting from a student request will be attempting to make paper shortly to add to the diversity available within The Maker Lab.
How long at Institution:
Mick started his role at the University of Lincoln in August 2018.
Journey to role:
Previously, Mick has been in education in teaching and technical roles for 8/9 years, and prior to that was a multi-disciplined manufacturing technician (engineering) in the air force.

Technicians should talk more, and tap into skills to give the best output for students.
Interests outside work:
Skiing, walking in the hills, fitness and paramotoring.
